Spreading yourself too thin, however, can result in dilution of your brand. Suppose you are a web developer offering translation services as well. How will you market yourself? It’s also possible that you’ll take on work for clients that you don’t enjoy just to make ends meet. This can feel incredibly demotivating.

When it comes to finding your niche in the market, you need to strike a balance. Your ticket to success might just be a narrow niche if you can find the right audience for it. Your goal should be to focus on your skills and what you can offer potential clients, then repeat this until you feel confident with what you have to offer.

Whether you submit an email, make a social media post, or follow up over the phone, the way you present yourself is key to your reputation, winning clients, and securing repeat business.

Set yourself up as a knowledgeable, friendly person in your field by communicating via email or contributing to a Facebook group related to your niche. Engage with like-minded businesses and view them as a support network rather than a competitor.

Using the internet as a networking tool doesn’t means you have to do it face-to-face every time. The face-to-face meetup, however, is essential to building your community, which can be a valuable resource as well as a lead generator.

Your weekly schedule should contain time for interacting with others. When you’re a solopreneur, it can be lonely and stressful, so taking time to meet with others can be beneficial to your business and your health. Working for free may be tempting during the early stages of your career, but you should avoid being trapped in an endless cycle of low-paying or free work.

The process of negotiating with clients about how much to charge is challenging and daunting, but you should remember that your goal is to keep your work profitable. You will find it more difficult to gain higher quality clients if you spend too much time on your work or underestimate your value.

7. Feelings of Self-Doubt

A huge challenge for many freelancers is overcoming self-doubt in the early stages of their careers. It also underpins all the other mistakes you make. The lack of confidence will likely manifest in unfocused work, undercharging, difficulties finding clients, and more.

 You may have heard of the ‘fake it until you make it’ mentality. This is not helpful as it promotes a lack of confidence or feelings of being out of control.

Believing in yourself, the skills and abilities you have that make you uniquely special is crucial to your success. Although it may seem like the biggest challenge of them all, valuing your time, knowledge and your work will help you take your freelance journey from strength to strength.
