In May 2020, I changed my career from a full-time internship to a remote virtual assistant job. Since more than two years, I’m a so-called digital nomad learning, working, and earning remotely.

Here are some of my truths about Life as a Digital Nomad

  • You can do almost any job online now. All skills are transferrable to virtual ones. It’s just up to you to find those jobs and transfer your skills online.
  • Don’t limit yourself to just one skill or one career. Be a jack of all trades but don’t forget to master one!
  • Have savings and keep Plan B and may be a Plan C too for rainy days.
  • Make internet your best friend. Keep asking her questions and you’ll be there!
  • Be prepared to work for free in the beginning. It’s best way to build a portfolio and gain testimonials quickly. You must be very selective about who you work for and ensure it’s worth your time, effort and loyalty.

Becoming a digital nomad is only worth it, if you are the type of person who loves location, money and time freedom with flexibility. This is a lifestyle that allows you to live a life that you want, either you’re attending best friend’s day-time wedding or travelling to northern areas or nani ka ghar when there are no official holidays!

As a woman, I make the most of my nomadic lifestyle. Some can be counted as, You may run for a quick grocery shopping, cook for your family and keep working on the other side. Your family is planning a shopping trip, no worries! Take your phone with you and stay connected with your clients. Any guest is coming over to your house or your family is planning to visit Khala or Mamu, you’re all set to go with your laptop and internet connection. No job time issues! You don’t need to sit on your laptop for so many hours. You can baby-sit your nieces and nephews too and the list goes on, while learning and earning the best even staying at home!
